Wednesday in Manizales was pretty low key. I once again set out to explore more of the city center on foot, and found many interesting shops and people. After walking around most of the morning, and then seeking out and finding a Bandeja Paiesa, I headed back to the hostel. That morning, many of the folks I had hung out with during the week had departed; some to Pereria, many on to Medellin for the Fiesta de las Flores. Myself, I had to head back to Bogota to catch a flight back to the states the next day :(
I had decided to take a flight because I wanted to maximize my time in Manizales, rather than wasting an entire day or night on a bus. After the super cheap Aries flights didnt work out due to overlapping times with my flight out of Bogota, I settled on a $120 flight on Avianca.
One difference in leaving Colombia and arriving in Colombia is that flights out are generally less festive. People are happy to land in Colombia, whether they are Colombians returning, Colombian-American immigrants back to visit family, or tourists like me. People are usually sad to leave this beautiful place.
Immigration at Miami airport was a breeze compared to last time when I flew into Ft Lauderdale. Good thing too, because we got delayed getting to our gate due to another flight that was being delayed for some reason. After rushing to get to my domestic gate, I found out we too were delayed, two hours. Turns out, there were some pretty bad storms up and down the east coast, one of which we flew over in North Carolina.
So finally at around 3am, I arrived back at my house in good old Washington DC. Until next time, Colombia! Seriously, I'm already planning my next trip back :)
