Adult baby-grower - livin' the dream...

I arrived at midnight so just trudged to the closest hostel, ‘Adventure Brew’, crawled into bed and slept.

The next day I fancied a night on the beers, so hopped across to the Wild Rover. When I got there I saw a couple of familiar faces - Brazil dude from Santa Cruz and a chap from Florinapolis who had been dubbed by others as ‘smelly French guy’. My crew was rollin’ deep. And pungent.

It also turned out to be the third anniversary of the hostel, with drinks offers, free shots and a ‘no service if not in fancy dress’ policy.

Luckily the hostel had a selection of costumes available. I jumped into a felt frog-suit and hopped over to the bar at about five. Two problems here - first the small print said ‘rock-star theme’, secondly the no service rule didn’t apply until seven, meaning that no-one else had got dressed yet.

Unabashed, I sank a few drinks, saying ‘kermit the frog’ or ‘the frog song by Paul McCartney’ more often than I would on a typical day. By eight the party was in full swing, loads of people looking cool and rockstarry - but also a frog, a wizard, a cholita and spiderwoman.

There was a live band covering U2 songs - pretty good from memory. Unfortunately there is limited memory; I’d forgotten the dangers of high altitude drinking and at around ten o clock found myself blowing chunks in the bathroom then passing out in my green baby-grower. Mmmm, comfortable.

The next day I did a bit of last minute Christmas shopping for woolly tat then hopped on the overnight bus to Uyuni. Salt flats ahoy…
