The storm was blowing in from the east and as we left Spello it looked like the storm would pass us by to the south as we drove in a south easterly direction towards Spoleto.   We did drive through a few squalls but were lucky enough to miss the hail.   At first it looked like snow in some fields which was something confusion to see in June but as we passed by we could see the hail along the side of the road.

Spoleto is really a small city and all the parking areas were full.   We decided not to try and find a parking area outside of the center and walk around as there was a constant drizzle of rain that would increase in intensity from time to time as rain squalls passed through.  Michiyo was driving and all those years of driving in Japan paid off as there were many narrow one way roads, sometimes the road was really an old alley not much wider than the car itself!   There was no parking in the center so we tried to find the Ponte delle Torri a 14th Century aqueduct.

There were a couple of signs in the city but we kept getting lost.   We were about to give up and were outside of town to the SE when we decided to drive up a hill and find a good vantage point to take pictures.  It turns out we found the road to the east side of the aqueduct and were able walk across.  Fortunately the rain had mostly died off so we could take our time exploring.

After seeing the aqueduct we had a choice.  It was getting later in the afternoon and either we could stay in Spoleto or continue on to Lake Trasimeno.   We had packed swimming trunks that morning but the storm meant that swimming probably would not be on the agenda but we still wanted to see the lake.   Just like in Spello we missed seeing some good sights and hopefully we will be able to return some day and give Spoleto its due.
