Asiana Airlines flight 213, Boeing 777

I woke up early enough to watch the Netherlands - Brazil match before my flight. I'm so glad I did! The flying Dutch managed an improbable comeback and knocked Brazil out of the tournament! It was highlight of my week.

After the game I finished packing and went to the airport. If you have been to SFO's international terminals, you might agree, it's one of the better designed international terminals in America. Whenever I'm in an airport I get so excited. From one building you can travel to almost anywhere in the world. I love to walk around the terminal and see where the other flights are going. I also enjoy people watching, seeing the different passengers, seeing the different uniforms of the flight attendants, hearing a variety of languages.

About to depart!

Before my flight I ate some food and watched the first half of the Ghana - Uruguay game. Uruguay dominated the early minutes, but Ghana took the lead just before the half on a tremendous strike from 35 yards out. I was sitting next to two Japanese gentleman who were also engrossed in the game. It was rather comical because every few minutes one of the guys would yell, "Shit!" in English and then go back to speaking Japanese. Sadly I didn't get to finish the game before I had to board my flight. I was sad for Africa, but happy for Uruguay. I believe they were the better team and in the end deserved to win. Diego Forlan has consistently been one of the best players throughout the tournament, and his gracious post game interview was indicative of his and his team's attitude. Anyway, enough football for now...

I had booked a flight on Asiana Airlines, but I was a little apprehensive after a previous bad experience with them. This time things went much more smoothly. The flight offered free liquor, had a variety of movies and the services was generally excellent. You can't really ask for more on a 12 hour flight. My only complaint is the Asiana Boeing 777s don't have individual climate control. This meant I was uncomfortably hot for the entire flight. Even though I complained 3 times, the flight attendants kept saying that other passengers were cold, so they could not adjust the temperature. I wasn't able to sleep on such a hot flight, but I guess I can't have everything the way I want it...

After 12 hours on the plane, we landed in Seoul. I was back in Asia!
