LA to Vegas

OK so last time we spoke we had the car in Venice beach, which was full of weirdos. We dropped the car at LAX the following day and headed to our hotel in Century City, just south of Beverley Hills, where we had our first swim of the trip in the pool. Our hotel overlooked the 20th Century Fox studios, but unfortunately they aren't open to the public. Had the hotel car drop us off on Rodeo Drive, and had some food and a few beers.
Next day we got up late and decided to go on the Universal studios tour. Took the bus and metro up there (LAis a HUGE city and it takes hours to get across it on public transport). Went on a few good "rides" at the studios, and took the guided tour of the studios where they have a few interesting things set up, should do for 70 bucks!
Monday we hired another car and drove the 250 odd miles to Vegas, stopping only to buy new swimming shorts as we left ours drying on our balcony in LA.
Our first night in Vegas was quite tame, had a decent meal, spent a few dollars on the slots and took a quick walk around. Tuesday we got up and transferred the MGM grand, our hotel for the next 3 nights, the place is HUGE, and has everything anyone could ever need. We hit the pool, well the river rapids in the afternoon before dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe.
Yesterday was a little busier, with a trip to see the expendables (yes I know we can do that back home, but it was a welcome escape from the heat). We then booked our Grand Canyon trip and then ate at the Harley Davidson cafe before checking out the Mandalay Bay at night, including a visit to the Minus 5 bar, where everything is made of solid ice. A few quarters on the horse racing machine with a few free bevvies and that was about all we could fit in yesterday.
Will update this with some more photos of the strip later tonight, and will post a separate Grand Canyon blog tomorrow morning before we head off to Chicago (this time by plane, no more driving).
