We soon preety much exhausted what Vientiane had to offer and so decided to move on to the action packed destination of Vang vieng. The drive was great and the rural life here differs so much to what we have seen elsewhere, and ducks are evrywhere! in every bit of water had someone fishing with nets, rods, baskets and various other contraptions. The main road through the country was narrow and slow. We got some stunning views of mountains and valleys alonng the way.

After a couple of hours we reached vang vieng and have spent the past few days enjoying the area. On the first day we rented mountain bikes and explored the surrounding countryside with its rice paddies, buffalo and smiling kids. We stopped off at various caves along the way. The area of Vang vieng is characterised by huge limestone pinacles which rise vertically out of the rice paddies, it really is stunning. The bikes were great fun but the heat really is something else wo it was hardwork, and the roads are more like stone tracks and so we were both limping around when the day was over.

We enjoyed the river the next day and had a go at the tubing which has made the area famous. Basically you sit in a huge inner tube and float down a stunning river which in parts is lined with bars, giant slides and huge rope swings, as you go by you are pulled into the bars which offer buckets of drink and free shots (as well as boggling grandmas!) it was a great day and we behaved fairly responsibly ;)
