We set off from Laos on 06/10 dreading the journey ahead. We had decided to travel to Vietnam from Laos via a sleeper coach as the only other option was to fly which sadly cost more than our budget would stretch too. The journey was meant to take 22 hours but actually ended up taking 24. As we were taking a night bus, we sadly didnt get to see the scenery of Laos and arrived at the Vietnamese border at around 6 a.m. We had to hang around for a while as the border didnt open until 7 a.m and by the time it did open it was pretty hectic with alot of people queing and pushing, which was not really great after a sleepless night on a coach. However, the scenery at the border was spectacular, with sleepy cloud drifting over a vast area of lush forest. By about 8 a.m we were through immigration and back on the road on the way to the capital of Hanoi. We drove through countryside, small towns and villages for about 8 hours and finally arrived in Hanoi. By the time we arrived it was dark so we jumped into a taxi, got completely ripped off, and finally arrived at our hotel where we collapsed from exhaustion and fell into deep sleep!
