Town beach in broome

we have finally reached Broome, the excitment is palpaple in the van, everyone is ready to blow off some steam and have a nice cold beer. we are arriving in the late afternoon and our first stop is to relax and have a beer. there is a great independant bar and brewery called The Matso's Broome Brewery. we each got a pint of different beer. monsoonal is the one I got. i have never had a beer that was so perfectly brewed to be consumed on a hot summers day. the others we got were: Hit the toad, Mango Explosion and ginger beer. We also had some testers of their newest beer, cant remember what it was called but it had chilli in it. it was the oddest beer i have ever had, it actually had a bite to it and burned your tongue in the after taste. it is definitely a must have.

i would never purchase a full schooner of it or a pint but definitely worth a taster.

as it is our first night we are going to hit up the local club, Oasis, we actually found the dutch girls there, it was nice to see them again. the oasis closes early though i think around 12 or 2 am. so we moved to the one that is  open late but because of a stupid rule i got kicked out of denied entry to the second club.

We are so hung over today. we are lucky enough to be in the town for something called staircase to the moon. the staircase to the moon is when the full moon rises over the exposed mudflats of roebuck bay at extremely low tide creating the optical illusion of a staircase reaching for the moon. The staircase occurs three nights each month from March to October.

the whole town comes out to see it and there is a cool little market that goes along it, with food and nick knacks. We are lucky as tonight the sky is clear, though the moon is late. i am glad i saw it but was not overly impressed and my camera was not able to catch it to any great effect.

i ate a massively big breakfest today at a local cafe, it was so expensive but so good. i had eggs benedict with mushroom, spinach, and salmon. it is so hot here that ice cream is essencial, so i have decided to go to a local ice cream place that offers homemade ice cream. it was really good and tastes homemade but if you want to save a few dollars buy it from coles.

we have started planning for our kimberly trip. we are thinking about renting a four wheel drive and do a week then come back and pick up the car from broome.

the gibb river road is a logistical nightmare you have to carry enough food water, fuel for everyone. you also have to take a minimum two spare tires. we did the calculations and because of the heat we need to take nine litres of water, per person per day, there are four of us maybe five if we are lucky. for five days it was going to cost us at least $500 each maybe more as fuel in this area can go over the two dollar mark. if you compare the 500 dollars for 5 days it is great value compared to doing a tour. We have not made the offical decision but it sounds like everyone is not up for it anymore. it is just too much money for little time and it looks like there is a crap load of things to see using the highway. we have taken on another car in our travels, so now we are traveling with two dutch girls and a canadian guy.
