Trying to get to Perth

It has taken me much long then i thought it would to get from Melbourne to Perth. originally i was hoping to find a ride to Perth, but after 3 and a half weeks of searching it is a better idea to take a flight, as rides are few and far between from Melbourne to Perth, and even right now very limited to Adelaide. i have found several people headed west from Adelaide but it is expensive to get there. the queens birthday here has really made all the prices go up, but not enough that it makes financial sense to wait until after the long weekend paying for hostels the whole time negates any benefit of a cheaper flight after the holidays.

i have decided to take a flight to Perth with Quantis for 245$. it was a great flight the in flight entertainment system is amazing and the crew made the flight very enjoyable. i have arrived in Perth , it is sunny out and it is nice to finally wear a t-shirt again after months of wearing sweaters in Melbourne. all the backpacker type things are located in a section of town known as Northbridge, which is great because it only really consists for a couple square blocks so everything is cheaper and within walking distance. the transportation system here is really nice to. they have 3 different types of buses: blue, red and yellow. the blue one is free and hits Northbridge and heads to the CBD and docks area it runs every 15 minutes so it is ultra convenient. the red one goes to the business district and a little farther, and the yellow hits some of the suburbs.

I am staying at One World backpackers, my friend Charlie recommended. it seems to be a converted bungalow from the 1920s. it creates a very cosy atmosphere though it is small and not a party hostel at all. the people are alright, consisting of long term stayers, with little time for the new people, but that is always the way it is. i would definitely recommend it for those looking to stay in Perth for a while and not wanting to bother to get a flat.

i spent the day walking around perth looking for rides as i want to get out of perth as quickly as possible, but have had no luck and i thought i was going to be stuck but i met a girl named mandy that night who was leaving in the morning the next day and offered me a ride in the back of her campervan with some of the luggage. so looks like i get to ride north in luxury; sprawled out on a mattress.

still amazes me how random life is as a backpacker, and how easy people are to help you out.
