huge interconnect banyan tree at the center of Lahaina
Lahaina downtown actually is pretty charming with lots of stores along the ocean on Front Street. They do get a lot of tourists of course, but this time of year was the low season, and the place was pretty quiet. We walked around town, and really enjoyed the huge banyan tree in the front of the court house. This banyan tree is something to behold, from the original root, it had grown and set down air roots which grew as big as real roots, and over the years, it became a big tangle of tree trunks, roots and it was really impressive. It was fun to try to trace a branch or root and see where it goes, but pretty soon we gave up because it was just too confusing to separate them out. One thing for certain, they are all connected!
We had lunch at the Lahaina Pizza Co, an upstairs restaurant, we got the last table at the window, and enjoyed a delicious deep dish pizza and view as we ate.
We also visited some galleries, but decided we better not buy anything! Browsing was OK, and there was an artist Robert Deyber in the Martin Lawrence Gallery who has a sense of humor and his small paintings all have a saying behind them, such as "The Bear Market", "Up in flames", etc, you try to tell what saying goes with the painting.
