Harbor Seals on Egg Rock off of Monhegan Island

The boat ride back was destined to be an animal packed adventure.  As we pushed off the captain announced he would swing out around Egg Rock so we could check out a gang of harbor seals sunning there, which was great fun.  But the zoo cruise was just beginning and during the return ride we witnessed a minke whale, porpoises, sea otters and a puffin!  An exciting finish that hopefully provided fond memories for our daughter.

When we got back to Shaw’s Wharf it seemed a visit to the diner was in order, and a several lobsters later we hit the road with full bellies.  Even though it is nothing special, Shaw’s Wharf is a fun lobster shack which probably gets scant business beyond folks catching a ferry – a bit too secluded and remote to garner any serious tourist traffic.  I won’t recommend going out of your way to dine at Shaw’s Wharf, but if you need to catch a boat from their dock, do bring an appetite!

It was splendid, Carole! Did you get anywhere beyond Acadia when you were in Maine?
