Arriving on the ferry to Peaks Island
Father’s Day in Maine. We checked out of the hotel and rendezvoused with some friends at Casco Bay Lines to catch a ferry out to Peaks Island, one of a multitude of populated islands around Portland. The game plan was to have brunch at Jones Landing and get down with a reggae band that was supposed to be playing, but once we arrived it turned out the band wouldn’t be there until later. The brunch menu was pretty dismal and without music we gave this place a pass.
So we ambled about another spectacular Maine property in search of a restaurant, ultimately choosing one with a deck overlooking the bay. It was a bit disturbing watching an enormous cruise ship ply the waters into Portland harbor. These monsters never ventured in during our tenure, and it was a wee bit disturbing watching this beast churn up a wake where we accustomed to lobster boats chugging along.
Couldn’t be too disturbed on Peaks Island, however. One more splendid Maine location that bears investigation. The ferry ride out here only takes twenty minutes and I won’t hesitate to suggest this as a vibrant option if you are mulling over Maine possibilities.
Alas, we took the ferry back to Portland, took the rental car back to the airport, took the plane back home. But where is home?
