President Elsie disembarks in Marrakech.

My first 2 hours in Marrakech were not very enjoyable.  My first thoughts were "I paid thousands of dollars and flew for a total of 16 hours for a vacation in Morocco only to be harrassed and cursed?"  (Yes, I was called a m***r f****r by a would be guide.  Funny how he didn't know much English until then.)  But after a shower and safely stowing our luggage at Riad Jnane Mogador, we ventured out on Djemaa el Fna with fresh faces and fresh perspectives.  After getting used to the overwhelming noise and putrid smells it became bearable and finally very enjoyable.

My first goal was to hold a monkey; I'm sure this is also a priority on everybody's 'to do' list.

I'd never held a monkey before, so this was something else that I wanted to cross off my list of "Experiences That I Must Do".  (It's a long list, and seems to keep getting longer).  Well I saw a monkey and before I knew what was happening he was on my shoulder.  I turned to the owner before fully enjoying the experience and asked "Combien?"  He assured me it was "un cadeau" which, of course, I didn't believe, but decided to enjoy this experience.  So after taking pictures with the rather bratty monkey I handed the owner 10dh.  He was furious.  He demanded 200dh!  I said no.  I could buy the darn monkey for that much.  He demanded I erase my pictures.    I said no and put the 10dh on the ground in front of him and we walked away.  He followed for a while before finally running back to retrieve his money.

After walking through a couple souks we headed back to Jnane Mogador, had an awesome dinner on their terrace and called it a day.
