Finally! Up On Table Mountain

Our experience hiking up Lion’s Head made our cable car ride up Table Mountain somewhat anti-climatic.  Table Mountain is the big tourist attraction here, and we almost didn’t get over to it.  The day we had planned to climb Table Mountain ended up being one of the few days that the weather failed us.  Conversely, the day we finally got to ride the car up was forecasted to be cloudy and windy, but ended up being a gorgeous clear day.  We had other indoor things planned for that day, but switched them up once we saw how nice the day turned out.  The cable car is somewhat novel in that as you are riding up, the floor of the car rotates so that over the course of your trip you get a view out of every side.  Each of the circular cars holds up to 65 people, and I’m sure on the way down we rode with a full house.

Luckily we were one of the first people in the car, so we got to steak out a good spot up against the windows and got the best views.  The view from on top of Table Mountain isn’t drastically different than the view from on top of Lion’s Head, but we could see a lot more south along the cape.  Some of the lighthouses that we drove by on the way to the penguin beach are visible from the top, but we couldn’t see all the way down to the Cape of Good Hope because some mountains block the view.  It was a gorgeous area, and with the weather being as perfect as it was, we couldn’t have rightly passed it by.
