All the nasty stuff which will try to jump out in front of your car

I am leaving Perth way too early in the morning for it to feel like a holiday. I am already getting ready to the way of holiday in Oz - you tend to always get up really early.

Leaving Perth I head north for the first stop of the journey. It is not such a long trip north just going a couple of hours north to a small place near Cervantes. It is a little national park - called the Nambung National Park. I have been here once before but back then it was one of those rare rainy days they actually do get in Western Australia a couple of times a year or something like that.

The park is pretty small and you can go on a short hiking trail which leads you straight out into the pinnacles.

The pinnacles
The pinnacles are actually focalized trees which back thousands of years ago where covered by sand which had killed the trees. Today the wind is making an effort to blow away a lot of the sand to make the pinnacles visible to the visitors. I am heading out for a short hike in the area to have a look and walk between them. The area with the pinnacles is pretty small so it is an easy hike.

One interesting thing is it is a different kind of sand in the area with the pinnacles. Most of the sand in Oz tends to be red due to the large content of iron - or sometimes they do get beautiful white sandy beaches as well. But here at the pinnacles the sand got a yellow color which makes the area stand out from a distance when you are driving towards them on the highway. At least I was sure I had seen this yellow sand patch before when we got close to the pinnacles.

I probably join the tour :) Cause it will go to other places aside from The Pinnacles. Thanks!

I been there twice - first time about ten years ago - I just got there by Greyhound bus which has a connecting local bus from the highway to Cervantes. When I went last time I actually went on a tour all the way up to Broome.
