Between Choiseul and the little fishing  village of Laborie is Balenbouche estate,an eighteenth-century sugar cane plantation with beautiful grounds, sugar factory remains including a spectacular sunken water-mill wheel, several trails, various animals(birds) and pets, secluded beaches(light grey sand)... covering 75 acres(30 hectares).
We were welcome and guided by the owner,Uta Lawaetz,a charming ,instructive woman, having grown in Austria with a background of interior design and architecture who runs the plantation with her two daughters.

She took her time to show us and give explanations about the estate that was one of the first eco-tourism enterprises in St Lucia.
It is also a plantation guesthouse offering several simple one and two bedroom cottages conveying a tropical outdoor feeling at affordable prices.
Dinner is offered 3-4 times a week on reservation.

                     Entrance fee:10 EC
