Camara dos Lobos
For today we had boked the North - West tour of the island.
As usual we wait again in front of Strawberry word's office to be picked up. I see a lot of "familiar" faces from yesterday's and Sunday's tours.

Below is the tour company's description adapted with a few of our own experiences.

Departing from the the Lido we pass through a traditional fishing village, situated five kilometres from Funchal : Câmara de Lobos which inspired the late Sir. Winston Churchill to paint it's lovely surroundings. The village was given its name by the explorers João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira because of the shape of its bay and the many sea lions living there at the time.

The the drive continues to Cabo Girão, the second highest sea cliff in the world and the highest sea cliff in Europe. Not that we notice much of it, because the entire cliff is surrounded by really thick fog.
Impossible to see more than 2 metres ahead.

Next we make our way to Ribeira Brava and head north, up through the deep and narrow valleys of Serra D'Água. You will then reach Encumeada a special place at the top of the valley where you will be met with an incredible view of both the south and the north coast of our beautiful island.

We then make our way to São Vicente, one of the most predominant villages of the north coast of Madeira, where we can see the main Church, built in the 17th century, and walk around a bit through the cozy little streets and along the beach.

We then stop in Porto Moniz where we have lunch and are able to dip our feet in the  amazing volcanic swimming pools.

Driving back via Paul da Serra, the last stop of this tour is at Bica da Cana, where nature is at it's peak. This is also close to the starting point of our levada walk tomorrow.

We are headed to Lisbon and Madeira in November. We will only have 4 days in each place. Can you recommend any MUST SEE'S while we are in Madeira?

Lovely blog and photos!
