This journey started with an overnight ferry from Santorini to Athens Piraeus at at around midnight. This took 9 hours of interrupted sleep. We made the mistake of trying to sleep on loungechairs in the main area. Lots of people found hallways and quiet areas to sprawl out for a good kip. We arrived in Athens at 8.30am, then after several inconclusive queries headed to Larisa bus station. We found a train going to Thessaloniki an hour later so booked on that and a quick coffee and sandwich later we were perked up for another international trek. So far 14 hours and going strong! We arrived in Thessa to find a train going straight onto Skopje within the hour so we joined the ticket queue. In true Greek inefficiency the ticket line barely moved after 30 mins. Given everyone in the line bar a few were heading to Skopje tempers began to rise. I told Kesh to go to the info point and put more staff on or they would have a riot on their hands. Not surprisingly they rushed through everyone to Skopje and tickets were sorted. This journey took another 5 hours which we shared with a couple of Finnish girls. The trip was very picturesque and went reasonably quickly. After 19 long hours we arrived in Skopje jumped in a cab and were at the Art Hostel. The cab was only 1.50 pounds a steal and the hostel proved hugely hospitable and with really helpful staff.
