Departure from Italy, headed back to England

Galileo International Airport

The Pisa airport has got to be one of the worst I've seen. It looks fancy from outside, but after Security check, you're supposed to, well wait outside a closed door which leads to escalators which then leads to Emigration check before you can board the flight. The problem is that the door is bang in the middle of the shopping/eating area and tends to get very crowded. Not to mention that the directions of what one is supposed to do isn't very clear which is why all the passengers stood there clueless.

The main rsnt, well coffee shop that sells sandwiches and ice cream again has an archaic system. You're supposed to first see what you want by scanning the windows in the whole store - then walk up to the counter, order and go back to that part of the store where you picked it first.

Anyway, they meanwhile finally opened the gate for us to board, emigration done in a jiffy and we were all set to board our aircraft. For the size of this airport (aka, a shoehorn), it sure attracts a lot of Ryanairs!

Flight departed on time, and I have to say, I still can't believe I had the privilege of visiting Firenze, well Italy.  It's an incredible country with lots to offer, and one of the few in which you can seamlessly switch among high class culture to high class couture to high class cuisine to high class countryside. The history was a learning experience, the school fantasy of visiting the oddest tower in the world fulfilled, and the appetite for *the* wine and *the* pizza satiated. To pick a favourite spot durin this trip would be tough, but the clear winners are San Gimignano and the day we spent at Chianti (for now).

(1 minute later): Oh wait, can I add Pitti Palace in there? (2 minutes later) What about Sienna and Torre del Mangia? (3 minutes later) Hold on, I think the new winner is Lucca........ no it isn't, Pisa is where it's at...... OR is it the gorgeous view of the Duomo, or is it.............. :)

Undecided till the next trip to Italia, or undecided forever :)

I didn't like any of the airports I visited in Italy. Florence airport was particularly bad. I was very surprised that such a touristic city didn't have a better airport.
