Drive Until the Map Turns Blue

Starting out at 7:30, after my slight delay, the goal for the day was to drive until the map turns blue: I WANT TO SEE THE BEACH!!! I made good time; stopping only once in the 10+ hour trip in Athens, Alabama for Chick-Fil-A and gas. Traffic in Birmingham makes me a nervous wreck , it always has(I started college here, and the first time I drove on the Interstate¸ I saw two cars hit, bounce off each other and keep going). Plus, there was construction, multiple zones. But, I made it through okay. I didn’t call OnStar for directions until South of Montgomery. Just when I thought it had forgotten, it piped up to exit off the Interstate.
I drove along Gulf Shores Parkway, stopping at Burris Farm Market in Loxley for strawberry shortcake. I got to the hotel, Courtyard by Marriott, without any problems; my room is on the third floor. I called Mom to let her know I’d made it just fine, right at ten hours, which I figured. THEN – I headed to the beach, the glorious white sand beaches of Gulf Shores. Since it was late evening, I only stayed about an hour, but it accomplished my goal. And, it was just long enough to fall in love with the Alabama Gulf Coast.
