Hey, I'm a squatter!

I gave a quick summary in my Denver write up as well.

We asked at Red Rock about a mining town that we could visit QUICKLY!  We had literally only a few hours before the wedding.  When we first got into Idaho Springs, we stopped at the visitor's center and asked about seeing a gold mine.  We were sent to the Phoenix mine just out of town.  We thought we'd just catch a touristy little mine with a gift shop... blah blah, but NO, this baby was real, down and dirty.  It was AWESOME!  It was much better than expected!  After the tour when we were standing in a stream panning for our own gold, someone drove by and showed us the nugget they found about the size of a 50 cent piece!  I found a lot of sludge, some cool looking rocks, and a TEENSY piece of silver.  But we had FUN!  The weather was perfect (mid 60s and sunny).

After panning, we went back into town for some light shopping and lunch.  I would gladly go back to Idaho Springs.  It was my husband's first taste of the mountains and I think he's ready to go back as well!

Do you suppose we could get by living off our findings?
