A walk around the island at sunset

I had a rest and waited for Rob to finish for the evening. I wanted to walk the village and hike to the ocean side of the island for sunset.

The village’s buildings are a collection of maritime, Victorian, Neo-classic, and indefinable. They are all decorated with carved trim details on windows, eves of roofs, gates and arches. The combinations of colors assure each stand out and be noticed.

We reached the north end of the village and proceeded to start our ascent across the rocky interior. The channel leading out to the sea was mostly empty of homes except for a long cottage or two, one being the caretaker of the little lighthouse on the tip of Koon, the island to the north.

The interior is rocky and yet green forested with marshy areas. There are wild daffodills of yellows, and whites. Little purple flowers can be found, also.

In climbing to the peaks of the rocky areas, the view is panoramic. The channel, the ocean, and little rocky islands, all around.

There were many clouds but enough open sky to funnel the light and create colorful waves of orange and pink across the sky. As the sun set, it became a brilliant red and yellow sphere as it touched the horizon. The red radiated with such intensity before giving way to the grey of night. It was a special moment on my Swedish journey of exploration. It was one of my favorite kind……the beauty of nature.
