I finally made my long awaited trip to North Omaha's "Big Momma's Kitchen" for lunch. i had not had good Soul Food since I was living in the East Coast of the USA. I had heard of this place in Omaha but had not found time to try it. (http://www.bigmamaskitchen.com/page/1h0l9/Home.html)
Big Momma started out making food out of her home and at times out of her local church. The demand and notoriety of her culinary approach led to an opportunity to open her own establishment. Today, she holds her ground on the bones of an old school. Having taken over the property of an old school allowed for a sizeable seating area as well as spacious kitchen.
Today I had: Big Momma’s Oven Pan Fried Chicken, Fried Okra with a side Plum sauce, Sweet Potato Pudding, Cornbread and Sweet Potato Pie Ice Cream. All of this with Ice Tea totaled up about $11.00 USD including the tax(es). The proportions of the meal rivals large Sunday family dinner. Consumption of this wonderful meal may induce a nap or coma.
Big Momma’s Kitchen was also featured in a television program in the USA on cable network called the “Food Network”. The program called, “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” tours the USA in search of unique and noteworthy cuisine from the USA. (http://www.foodnetwork.com/diners-drive-ins-and-dives/index.html)
