The beautiful flatland

The road from Matagalpa was not as busy as we had expected and the trip went well; the only issue was in Sebaco where we had to find the right road that would take us over the flatland and up to our goal for the day at Estelí.

As soon as we turned in to the flatland we could see for miles around; the first kilometres were quite boring until we got chased by a huge truck that constantly stayed only meters away from our rear window. I felt that we were in a remake of Spielberg’s The Duel. After some 15-20 kilometres he stopped in a village probably to get something to eat or say hallo to some family because after that we didn’t see him anymore and the trip became much more pleasant.

While driving we saw a huge amount of colourful birds flying by bit also some guys standing selling armadillo’s and iguanas’ along the road. There was no doubt that the area was quite poor even though the fields were green and fertile but the land was probably in the hands of few people.

At the end of the flatland we began again to see some volcano’s and one were more impressive than the other. We turned up the mountain and due to the fact that there was so much to look at I was quite surprised that we so quickly came to the city limit of Estelí.
