Reserva Natural Isla Juan Venado
The last of the four trips we did with Tierra Tours was a visit to the mangroves and the wildlife of Reserva Natural Isla Juan Venado which is situated next to the most well known beaches of Leon.
The trip was an early starter; it was possible to choose the trip in the afternoon but in their wintertime it is better to start in the morning due to the afternoon rain that often happens in the afternoon. It was also told to us that the birds were much more active in the morning.
We took off at 7 am, where we were picked up at the hotel by the driver and the guide for the day. It was a short drive to Las Penilas where we were greeted by the captain; a smiling guy who was big as a house and his son, who turned out to be an excellent bird and animal spotter. They were both extremely friendly and smiling all the time.
We sailed for 5-10 minutes before we were in the mangroves, already in the beginning we had a wonderful view. It was a great trip where we saw a lot of different birds and iguanas and a small crocodile. The trip lasted for 3 hours before we were back and the when very fast because we were bird spotting all the time.
