Wow!

Our goal for the day trip was to reach Lago de Apanás that turned out to be more difficult to reach than we had anticipated; mostly due to that we were not driving the 4x4 that we had planned to.

We left Jinotega and followed the road trying to see the water in the far distance. Every time passed a crossing we stopped the first person to confirm our decision, most of the time we were right and continued out off smaller and smaller roads. At the point where we could see the water we were driving on a field with a lot of cows surrounding us. There were some car tracks so we continued until there were only mud poles and we were only 500 meters from the water.

We decided to turn around and now even walk out there; it looked too muddy. We found another road which we followed and it was along a military camp where the guards with their machineguns kept a solid eye with us. We managed to get up on the road towards Santa Maria de Pantasma and followed that. After a few minutes we were met by a wonderful view over Lago de Apanás and we stopped the car next to some houses where the kids came out and looked at us taking pictures of the stunning view.

We talked about continuing out of the road to get a better view but decided to turn around and spend the time before we had to return examining Jinotega and find something to drink; and besides that we had no idea if it was going to rain in the mountains when we were heading back to Matagalpa
