Our last full day. And we hadn't seen a levada yet. Shame on us, seven days on this beautiful island and no hike along a water irrigation chanel. So, today it must be. Trying to drive to Loreto with a short-cut. Wrong, no short-cut. So, we were back in Calheta again. Ah hell, making the situation usefull, we did some groceries in the biggest supermarket of south western Madeira. Should we go via Calheta to Loreto? We did not take the chance and went back to Arco. It did not matter at all, it was just some 15 minutes drive. Finding a parking place was a little bit more difficult. We did what the most Madeiraens do, wild parking. No problem.

The first part of the hike brought us to Calheta Central.

From there the hike along the levada Calheta da Pargo begins. To bad, this part was closed because of renovation. We were not allowed. So we went back further south, to get another turn and beginning in the middle of the levada. This path was steep! It was just 1 kilometre, but we had to stop 3 times. And then, there it was finally, the levada. The man at work saw us, but we quickly got on the path and followed it. It was great. Silence. Nature and sometimes very narrow. Sabine had to overcome her fear of heights sometimes. Halfway, we had a little lunch in the shade by some waterfall. We ended in Florencas and went back to Loreto. Exhausted and satisfied. Buying a sandwich and a coke from the local snackbar. Cheap! On the way back we saw a parking lot. It was about 3 o' clock.
