I left Hiroshima early, still disappointed of not being able to get to the summit of Mt. Misen...
.... and arrived in Osaka just after 1pm to meet up with Ayaka-chan and her friend, Azzy, after checking in at J-Hoppers Osaka (see Oct 2008 blog).
Off we were to Shinsekai, an area in Osaka I haven't visited yet. Apparently, they have good food there... Mmmm, I'm always for good food, but first we stopped by at Tsutenkaku Tower where Billiken, the god of good luck, hopefully bestow us some good luck!
Tsutenkaku Tower gives a nice 360 degree skyline view of Osaka from the top. The god of good luck, Billiken, is also located there~! I threw in some loose change and prayed a bit (they were doing it so I just followed them) for some good luck.
After that we were starving so they took me to the supposedly first kushikatsu restaurant in Shinsekai where I had a glass of beer and different varieties of katsu! Shrimp, osyters, beef, pork, chicken, some veggies, and my favorite was the miso-coated chicken katsu! That was delicious. We were also reprimanded for doing it the wrong way... Dipping it wrong and using chopsticks instead of by hand... Too many rules!!! But by the end of the meal, the staff happily posed as I took pictures of them.
We headed to Osaka Station where Azzy was going to take her train for home, but instead we found ourselves in a cafe, enjoying some dessert and chatting... next thing we knew, it was past 7pm, and we were tired.
We said good byes, planned to meet the next day for some DYI okonomiyaki with some Osaka-TB gang, and on my way to catch my train, I saw Chris (reikunboy) getting off the train! I called out to him and amidst the very crowded station platform, we got to say a quick hello before he went home and I returned to my hostel for a restful night.
But I was hungry - again!! Around the corner from the hostel was a 7-Eleven store so after a shower, I found myself buying some onigiri and enjoying a quiet night, uploading pictures the previous days over macha tea at the hostel's common room. I also met a fellow NYU student staying in the hostel so we got to chatting. Sugoi~
By midnight, I was asleep, ready for my day visit to Himeji Castle the next day~
