wow it's almost a year ago i went to London to live and study there. i was picked out of several applications to come and study at Camberwell College of Arts in the southbank of London on an Erasmus scholarship. just one day after christmas last year i went to Hoek van Holland to catch the boat to England and then the bus to London. The beginning of an adventure i would never forget!
Before this longterm trip to London i went to London three times before. Once a couple years ago when i first found out the meaning of christmasshopping and that london was the place to be! with three friends we took a busride just before christmas to see what all the fuzz was about. i'll never forget that first time in london :)
the second time was about a year or two ago when i found it time to go back and explore the city a bit more. together with a friend who absolutely loved starbucks i went back to London for a week and had a blast! I knew then this city would always be on my mind :)
the third time was a schooltrip. we went to Camberwell College of Arts to explore art academy life london style and this is where my interest raised for studying in this city where art is literally on every street corner...i knew that somehow my art studies would benefit from some time in this town :)
and that's how the journey began...
On my very first day in London I already met one travelbuddy who is now one of my best friends :) I just love Hang, he's the absolute best and definitely made my life in London a lot more fun!
Heidi was the second and through her i met Shivani, Ray, Jeffrey, Jasmine and so many more! I can't thank travelbuddy enough for helping me along with these contacts :) All of these above are still my very good friends till this day and I wouldn't have loved London so much as I do without them :) so this entry is dedicated to all my friends I made there through TB :)
Hang - always there for me, always helping out and always with a smile :)
Heidi - vivid, enjoying life to the fullest and ambition coming out of the wazoo :P she's like a big sis, i just love her :)
Shiv - the photographer, always having fun :) we did an amazing photoshoot at Brick Lane once, I will never ever forget :)
Ray - omg we got along so well in our mutual interest in arts.
Jeff - i went to so many places with him while he was out of a job :P always full of ideas and enjoying everything that came his way! i love spending time with jeff!
Jasmine - we met right before new years and got a long great! i don't see as much of her as i would like to but i love the moments we have :) I still consider her a great friend, one of my best in London :)
AND, not to forget all the other TB's I met during my time in London, one of which i'm still in touch with: Joss :) Love her! we had a mutual friend in Hang and had dinner and did some shopping together!
i was extremely excited on my first day at Camberwell College of Arts. an entire welcoming day was planned in the city to discover the arty bit london has, very cleverly, hidden away only for art students to find. the backstreets of areas such as soho are covered with art and artists!
about my school period at Camberwell College of Arts i can be really short. It was amazing! not a word more, not a word less: just amazing. the school system in art is so different from Holland, it really made me put my studies and myself in perspective and made me see the benefits i could grasp from this experience.
my love for printmaking was widely answered to with all the workspaces at camberwell and all the well functioning masters of all of those arts who loved to teach me anything they knew and everything i wanted to know :) my softly burning flame for this type of art got seriously lit into a great fire overhere :) i still benefit from that to this day!
