Eilean Dolan Castle
So Today we got off to a good start. We ended up going back to Eilean Dolan castle on our way to Ratagan/Glen Shiel. While we were stopped at the cafe/mountain shop area, I took advantage of the extra time to go into the mountain hiking shop. In there, I ended up getting a good deal on a sweater; which was great because I was absolutely freezing most of the days in Scotland. Note to all, make sure you bring layers or a warm coat if you plan on visiting Scotland in April!.

Once we got back on the bus, Neil our tour guide, told us the a story about the "5 sisters" mountain we were going to see. Basically, the story went as such; there was a single father of 7. He was a little worried about having so many daughters and not being able to provide for them.

One day, two Irish Sailors visited the area and fell in love with the two youngest daughters. The Irish sailors went up to the father and ask if they could take their hand in marriage and bring them back to Ireland. At this time however; it was customary to have the eldest daughter wed first then follow suit afterwards. The two sailors were a little frustrated with this, so they came up to a solution. They told the father that they had 5 brothers at home in Ireland that would be willing to marry the other sisters; however, they wanted to bring back two youngest daughters with them to Ireland. After much debate, the father agree to let the Irish man marry his youngest daughters with the promise that he would send back their other 5 brothers.
After a couple of years had passed, and no one heard or seen any of these 5 Irish brothers, the Father or the remaining 5 sisters got a little concerned that he would be stuck with his 5 unwed daughters, so he went to the towns witch and explained the situation to her.

He expressed great concern about his 5 daughters losing their youth and beauty while he was waiting for the Irish Sailors to come back to claim them. So the wish came up with a plan. She told him not to worry and that she would put a spell on them so that they would have everlasting youth and beauty. The next day, the father went back home, excited to tell his daughters about what he has done for them. The only thing though, was that once he returned to his house, he couldn't find them. He went around the house and yard yelling their names looking for them with no luck. After a day or two looking for them, he went back to the witch to ask her what she has done to them. The witch said, look to the east and you shall see your beautiful daughters.

So the Father did as such and looked it horror, the witch had did exactly what she had said, she gave them everlasting beauty and youth by changing them into the 5 mountains close to Glen Shiel!
I thought it was a cute story that went well with the area :o)
Afterwards, we stopped in Glen Shiel and saw the area where the Glenshiel battle occurred. It I'm not mistaken it is quite close to the area where we saw the view of the 5 sister mountain.
