The fundraising starts ...
Right ... So I had signed up to go off to Cambodia in November and do some volunteering. I had booked the flight ticket from Amsterdam to Siem Reap and back and MAG's event manager Lesley informed me that since I had arranged for my own flights I only needed to raise 2.200 GBP instead of 3.000. With half a year to go that seemed very feasible.

There's one thing I had already decided. I didn't want anybody to think that they were paying for one of my trips to the other end of the world.
This wasn't the case of course. I mean, I'd already been to Siem Reap before so there's other places on the wish list I'd go to if I really considered this a vacation. But to remove all doubts I would pay for the registration fee and the flights (some 1300 Euro) myself. So, basically I would give up a week of days off and this amount of cash to MAG. Consider that my personal donation to this great cause.

Now ... how to get the other 2.200 pounds? I had a couple of ideas in mind, but  first I followed MAG's advice to create a page on JustGiving, which you can find here. Seemed like a good start to have a place where you could steer people towards and ask them to make a donation. More parts of the cunning plan would follow.

To be continued, but in the meantime, if you're following this blog and want to help out, feel free to make a donation. You'll can do so and find lots of information about the MAG charity and this specific event on my JustGiving page.
