Clean and Green

Hi all, sorry for my usual delay.
I finally decided to give some updates about my business trip.
First stop; Surabaya, Java, Indonesia.
The purpose of our visit was to take a look and essentially be exposed both to the problems of waste generated by our consumerist society and to a community who have taken thier limited resources and succeeded far more effectively than we do in the west to deal with their waste.
As you can see from the photos, the communities we visited in Surabaya were vibrant, lively and welcoming. Most important of all however, was the great sense of pride and achievement these people had for cleaning and greening their area. We had a film crew, photographers and even a journalist from a news paper (If you can read Bahasa heres the article lol http://jawapos.com/index.php?act=detail_c&id=297135) So this all felt rather like being in a Unicef video with all the children and the singing people etc. Basically amasing, especiall when you point out that these areas (Which i think look rather nice) were less than 5 years ago, still called slums.
The other photos are those of the local landfill, an unpleasant experiance to say the least but a strong eye opener for the scale of the mess we humans create.
