I found a wonderful place near where I studied. Some days after class I would go to the Center for the Blind where they gave exceptional bodywork. Some of the best Thai massage that I received while in Thailand. The first time I went in a tiny lady took me to a mat and started the session. It was a 2 hour Thai Massage and was very impressed.
Another quirky place I got massage was at the Chiangmai Women's Prison (read my review). These women are going to be released within 6 months and the money that is earned goes into a saving for them (so they say) for when they leave. There was a lady that worked on me 3 times by the name of Pat, excellent pressure and knowledge. I got a kick out of her singing to the Thai music, I would tell her she was singing to me =)
While hanging with some friends one evening at Sunday Night Market I found myself in a part I had not visited yet in the month I had been in Chiang Mai. Because of my interest in Tok-Sen (traditional) I started a conversation with a Thai man who had a booth and they did more of Ancient type of massage..."Hot Iron" and "Tok-Sen". They had this metal thing where there was hot coal/wood and a massage mat. My friend was curious and tried it out. It was quite interesting to watch.
