The big plaza, Cumhuriyet Meydani, with a special statue of Ataturk

'We are now approaching the airport of Antalya, please fasten your seatbelts.......' How many times haven't I heard theese words when arriving to southern Turkey. This time I had decided to look what the city itself had to offer.

Alanya is, at least for scandinavans, the most wellknown beach resort in southern Turkey. Many people mix the three cities Alanya, Antalya and Antakya up but now I have visited the all three of them. The buses between Alanya and Antalya is a two hours ride and runs frequently every half hours from the Otogar. I had booked a hotel for two nights in Antalya, Oscar Hotel. It was a threestar familyrunned hotel with a convenient location.

From there I took long city-walks discovering the city and its beauty. The modern city is like any other modern city with business buildings and trafic jams :). Not much to see really. So the best way to discover Antalya is to take the tram out to the beach. From there you can walk to the Archeological Museum, take a quick lunch in one of the green parks on your way back again to the city. In another direction you can stroll through the narrow alleys in old town that leads you down to the picturesque old harbour. In the harbour you can take a boat tour for sightseeing or fishing, not to forget a nice evening meal in one of the good restaurants.

You can also walk through the big park on the other side of the city centre and take a look at beutiful plants and green bushes. From there a small staircase with say 400 steps takes you down to a very special raft where it is a café, some sun beds and you can dive into the sea for a refreshing swim. It was such a cool place.
