Petco Park - about the lamest name ever, a pet supply company pays the city for the name...
Okay, this is a pretty weak travel blog... but Im not going anywhere right now!

My dad took me to the ball game - he loves baseball and has the whole season ticket action, goes to all the games. I'm not a big sports fan, especially not baseball, but I liked going since it was with my dad. I'll put some photos up for those of you who haven't been to a game before...

I think it's usually better, this year our team - San Diego Padres - really stink : ) You can see that the stadium's pretty empty, I think only the biggest fans are going now....

The first thing you notice is that everything's sponsored by something. The announcer's like "and the first pitch, brought to you by Union Bank!" Then there's the Taco Bell singing of the national anthem and the.... well, maybe not quite that bad, but, well the whole stadium has been renamed Petco Park after a pet supply company bought the rights to naming it from the city. The whole stadium was moved downtown by the bay (which is kind of cool but the whole thing was a boondoggle by some developers to get the city to evict a bunch of traditional businesses from the area so they could get the land cheap and build hotels).... well, you get the idea, it's a little out of hand.

Baseball in California is just what you'd imagine it to be, pretty laid back - people go to the games, talk, hang out, half watch what's going on; not like the east coast version where they're a little more rabid : )

You'll be here during the season in April - in most cases you don't need to get ticket in advance, the games generally don't sell out. I don't think they're posted yet, but there are several chances that there will be a local game while you're in LA or SD. Check out these sites for the schedules once they're posted:

When is the baseball season? Andrew would love to go to a sporting event while over there but don't know if it will be possible because of time, or lack of.
