Dinant is in central Belgium, along the Meuse river, in the province of Namur, 65 km south of Brussels, 20 km south of Namur.
There are about 10,000 people living in the town of Dinant.
I went there by car from Brussels, (highway E411 via Namur (Exit 20) it takes one hour but  there is a direct train from Brussels (North, Central and Midi stations) via Namur.
There are four main attractions in the small town:
1-The Citadel overlooks Dinant from its about 100 meter cliff. The Citadel was built during the Dutch occupation in the early 1800s, the French destroyed an earlier fortification (build in 1051 and rebuilt in 1530) in 1703.
To visit the Citadel, you can take a cable lift located next to the cathedral (7 Eur for adults) or climb 408 stairs, your choice. There is an arms museum inside,  tourist stuff, and great views of the city from the cliffs.

2-Cathedral of Notre Dame was originally built as a Romanesque church at the end of the 12th century. In 1227 rockfall destroyed the tower and the church was partially rebuilt in Gothic Style. In the late-medieval Dinant became known for its metalworking capabilities, and many religious objects used in this valley were manufactured in Dinant and some are displayed in the Cathedral.

3-Kayaking on the Meuse River (there are 3 different colors for the kayaks - Blue-Yellow-Red) There are different routes and the shortest one is 8 km.You may also take a tour by boats on the river.

4-Grotte La Merveilleuse, a show cave . Entry fee for adults 8 € (Euro)  (the guide tried to tell the story of the cave in Dutch, French and English but nobody understood a word. Better to read a before you go there :) The tour takes 45-50 minutes and you need to wait until the previous group finish the tour.
