Touch down at Denpasar...immediate culture shock with the mass of Balinese people at the gate of the Ngurah Rai Airport. I was jolted back into the real Asia. I braced myself for the Balinese experience.
After negotiating with a blue taxi driver, we were a deal at 50,000RP, and we were on our way to the Kuta Beach Club. By this time, I was used to the right hand driving and the left lane road travel. What I was not used to were the sharp curves at busy streets which our driver was deftly negotiating despite the lack of regard for "slow down". Still, I was impressed with the man's conversation English and his knowledge of politics while he made easy talk with us Bali first timers.
Kuta Beach Club was everything the website told me. Nestled near beside Ramayana Hotel and a 5minute walk to the beach, it was a perfect deal. The two pools were impressive, and the much touted bar by one of them was a plus.
After settling into our standard room, we hit the bar immediately. Our welcome party were Heine and Bintang. Cold cold beers which we immediately enjoyed with sandwiches and fries. So far so good.
