Part of a monument for the soldiers of the USSR, only a few people know where this monument (allmost a park) is. Not even many neighbours know it.

Friday May 23rd.

In the morning we got three programs to choose from:

  1. to go to the zoo with one teacher (Zoologischer Garten Berlin)
  2. to go to a special monument (at the end it turned out to be a monument for the fallen Communist soldiers)
  3. something with conserving and trusteeship (don't know the destination)

I went for the monument, it was all about the theoretical side of museology. I thought it would be interesting for once. It was very interesting.

The monument can be found in East-Berlin and is, even under the locals, not well known. Some don't even know it is there, that while its quit big. The park surrounding the monument is quit big as well, it might even be 600 meters (about half a mile) long. I couldn't see how wide it is.

I've turned 180 degrees from the last statue. This is the main part of the Sovjet monument. It was build by women from Berlin, they were not treated as women, but as slave's.

The location is pretty emotionally charged and tha's noticeable, you can feel it. Stalin has written the texts himself and the park was made by women from Berlin. During the construction they were raped by the soldiers who guarded them.

At around 1 PM we had to be back at the Zooligischer Garten, we went back to The Netherlands. At around 8 PM we were back in Utreht and at 11 PM I was at my final destination for that day, my moms place.

Vrijdag 23-05

Walked through the gates into the park, I'm still in the Sovjet monument here.
