This is my second trip to Penang. The first time I stayed in Georgetown amongst the shopping, culture, buzz and sites. I only went to Batu Ferringhi at night time for the night markets, so didn't get to see it in its daytime glory.
So, this time I stayed at Batu Ferringhi to chill out for a few days.
Living it up at the Rasa Sayang - man, it really is gorgeous and the people are sooo friendly, attentive and helpful. It's located right on the beach, but as there's stingers in the water, the resort pool (which is amazing) is a good option.
Batu Ferringhi is approx 15km from Georgetown but feels like worlds apart.
Went into Gurney Plaza for some shopping - all label and international shopping here, so popped into Komtar in Georgetown for some more localised type shopping.
Was hassled one evening on 2 occasions bit by a couple of local men in Georgetown that tryed to coerce me in their car/bike. A firm "No" fled them away, but would suggest for any solo ladies to make sure you stick to the well lit streets.
Visited the Butterfly Park at Teluk Bahang with a nice selection of butterflies, and also taranchulas, beetles and scropians. I just caught the rapid bus to Teluk Bahang and walked the 1.5 - 2km to the park.
Aparently Penang offers a tourist pass for appox MYR20 for a week's travel on the buses. Buses are quite reasonable in Penang and get you most places. They're nicely air conditioned and quite comfortable.
Another great trip to Penang. Will definitely head back once again.
