At a rest stop near Kalamazoo we saw this marker.

We had a wonderful breakfast at the hotel in Lansing, Michigan. Remind me to do a 10 star review of that place!!

On the road just after 9 am and on our way towards Chicago.  We stopped at a rest stop along the way and got a shot of a marker that told about Kalamazoo.

Getting near Chicago we started getting held up for toll roads. First 50 cents, not too bad, but then about then minutes later another toll booth for $1.25 and then a third only a mile or two up the road for $3.00 which frosted me because we were still ten miles south of the city and I could tell how much more it would take to get on in so we jumped off the toll road and took straight north into town.  Guess what we saw just to our left?  Another ball park!!!  Home of the White Sox.

Not a state sign, but a welcome to Chicago.
We turned and got a few pics and then headed back into town to see Millennium Park.  But the closer we got the worse the traffic was and suddenly we saw three helicopters hovering overhead and could see fireworks going off straight ahead of us along the street.  When we got up to within a quarter mile of the park the police had the road block to traffic and routed us away. No way to visit the park today.  I think I got a shot of the Sears tower but maybe not.  At that point we were just trying to escape!!!

We had no idea that the reason for the road blockage was the parade for Chicago Balckhawks who had just won the Stanley cup. No wonder so many folks were wearing their jerseys.  And somehow the helmuts on the lions outside the museum should have been a tip off too! LOL :D
