The entrance to the Holland Tunnel.
So now it was driving into New York City time. I have been warned on many occasions NOT to drive into that city. But I only wanted to see a couple of sites, get some pictures and drive on out. Boy was that a brainless idea. I had my GPS set to avoid all toll roads so it kept refusing to send us through the Holland Tunnel or over any bridge with a toll. It took me a good while to realize that and change it. Finally, it allowed me to take the Holland Tunnel and saved us another hour and a half of driving. Now I wanted to go to Times Square, and it gave me good directions, but the millions of taxis and just as many pedestrians trying to cross the streets just about drove my wife and I nuts. When we did get up to Times Square the street was closed off from 47th so we took a couple of pictures from 48th and drove on. We found our way, with lots of difficulty, to the south end of Central Park and drove around the bottom and for a few blocks on the west side before calling it all off and turning to leave town. Even that didn't go very well and we had to make several tries at it.
