We had just arranged to go diving off of Durban the next day, so Tom and Alex decided to join in. We spent the evening warning them against too much booze before a dive day, but our sage advice went unheeded… On our way to the dive site, the fast boat was bouncing through the rough surf; just after we had followed some playful dolphins for a while, Alex turned green and was sick over the side of the boat. When we reached the site, Cooper’s Light, a beautiful wreck covered in orange Anthias and boasting a big stonefish and a big catfish, he tried to go down but could not. Tom made the dive without his buddy, sticking close to us. It was a nice, albeit cold (20°C) dive. When we came up Alex was still being sick, and was still so the entire way back, could not even lift his head to look at the humpback whales we saw en route… Alex and Tom skipped the second dive which took us to a pretty coral cove with lots of micro sea life.
On the way back, we stopped at five car parts dealers trying to replace the back window of Alex cousin’s Toyota that had been broken into the previous night (for a comforter and a pillow). Nobody had one. We gave up and, exhausted, had an early night.
