Trekking around Tampere

This weekend we had initially intended visiting Helsinki or Turku but unfortunately as we were on a shoestring budget, decided to save on train fares and stay local. We definitely made the right choice, we had so much of Tampere still to discover. Today probably ended up being the best day of the holiday. (With the exception of the gig of course!) The weather was glorious, beautiful sunshine but still with a chill in the air.
We set out by making the short walk from the hotel to Hatanpään arboretum where I think I captured my favourite photo's of the holiday. I would very much like to visit this area during the Summer months to see the Arboretum in full bloom plus the advantage of the manor house, museum and restaurant being open during the tourist season. Never the less we enjoyed a nice, relaxing stroll around this large, beautiful, tranquil park.
From here it was on into the city centre for a proper Saturday shopping session. I did have some money from my folks to spend on a birthday present for myself after all, plus the obligatory tacky tourist gifts to take back home. It's a crime not to! First stop: Aarikka. A handcrafted jewellery store where I purchased a silver snowflake pendant & chain, a lovely memento of my first (and surely not the last) trip to Finland.
