We were up good and early Sunday morning. I had read on a website that the First Presbyterian Church in San Juan had an English service at 9:00 a.m. Being it was Palm Sunday, we both wanted to go. We packed our Sunday best and took a taxi downtown around 8:30. A bit of advice, San Juan is not awake at 8:30 on a Sunday morning. We found the church locked up pretty tight. So, we walked around the beautiful downtown area, along the walls near the shore, and through a pretty little park. Closer to 9:00, we found one church worker at the church. Shortly afterward, the minister came and told us that they no longer have the English service, but he can translate for English speaking guests when necessary at their 10:30 service.
Even though the ship didn't sail until around 8:00 p.m., we headed for the ship. We were all SO EXCITED to get on that we simply couldn't take it anymore. We got a taxi that could lug all 4 of us with luggage to the pier (again, not much more than around $7pp). Checking in was a BREEZE. We didn't stand in a single line. I didn't even get to use my "priority check-in" for being a platnium member because there was no line in the regular line.
I was a bit nervous about being on a big ship. My last cruise on a ship this big was CROWDED and had some extremely rude people / kids on it. We waited in long lines for most everything on that cruise and had to deal with teenagers having food fights in the formal dining room, and just general rudeness.
Dinners were, as usual, very good. I don't have a single complaint about the food on an RCI cruise. I know many people say the food quality has gone down quite a bit. I guess I would compare the meals to something extremely good I would find in a nicer restaurant in Columbus, OH. I throughly enjoyed absolutely everything I ate from the breakfast buffet to the formal meals in the evening. I did, however, notice a serious cutback in the little "extras" here and there. The ice cream machine ran out a few times and had limited hours. There also wasn't the roaming food trays with those awesome little tart dessert things at the functions. There also weren't nearly as many roaming bartenders around the pool. However, the food service and quality seemed quite good to me.
I'm including pictures from our at-sea day on Monday (3/29) as well on this page. As you can see, very impressive ship.
