Temple on Emei Shan

Again we are lucky and the overnight rain seems to have past.  Today I try poached eggs for breakfast and although the eggs are Ok they are poached in sweet water which makes the taste a little unusual.

The walk down is pleasant, for the most part not as steep as yesterday and we take it gently as have the whole day to reach the bottom.  At Jiuling we miss the junction which is hidden by some building works, but we only have to back track 200m but this is uphill which solicits some complaints from my companion.  On the way down to Wannian temple we pass plenty of people heading up some dressed in surprising footwear for a mountain walk (albeit one on steps).  A young guy from Hong Kong asks us how far to the top and looks disappointed by the answer.

Monkey

The final drop down to Wannian is perhaps the steepest section of the whole walk and are legs are beginning to feel the strain of thousands of steps so it is a relief to arrive at the temple but not to find the hoards, there is a cable car up to here, many of them feeding the monkeys.  One guy we see give a monkey a bottle of coke, the monkey unfortunately drank it! Wanniam temple has a entry fee so we skip it and head on down for lunch.  There are a couple more temples on the walk down; Qingyin is at a meeting of 2 rivers and has an impressive setting.  Wer take the easy walk back from here past the lake and souvenier sellers but it is easy stuff to resist.
