Today, we had a full day tour of Quito by Zenith Travel. Our guide picked us up at our hotel at 9AM and we walked over to the plaza. There was some type of demonstration going on outside the Municipal Building. Our tour guide says the people were protesting against taxes (reminds me of April 15th and feeling good my tax returns have been filed before I left home!). We stopped by the Parliament Building then toured Iglesia de la Companera de Jesus. We had to pay US$2 to go inside this church. After walking some more around the city, we were picked up by our van from Zenith Travel and taken to El Teleferiqo (tram to take us up to the highest point in Quito). It costs US$8.
After the tram ride, we went for lunch at Cochabamba Restaurant, close to the statute, El Mital del Mundo. We had a lovely lunch including, the local favorite, fried pork and cerviche. After lunch, we made a final stop at the Museum del Mundo where the museum guide did some experiements on and off the equator line. I tried to balance the egg, without much luck. It was interesting to see the water drainage right on the equator line. This is said to be the true equator line and not the line at the monument! Entrance fee for the museum was US$3.
We had a full day and made it back to our hotel around 6PM.
