Nice airplane...free booze, snack and other beverages..
We were picked up at 5AM to catch our departure flight from Quito to Baltra Island at 7AM. After checking into our flight, we had to pay the US$10 Galapagos fee before going through security and boarding the plane. Upon arrival in Baltra, we had to pay the US$100 Galapagos National Park Fee before picking up our luggage. We were met by our tour guide Veronica. We boarded the Galapagos bus which took us to the dock to catch a ferry boat to Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island. Once we arrived on Santa Cruz Island, we boarded a taxi which took us to our hotel, Hotel Mainoa. This was a lovely old spanish type mansion converted into a hotel.
Our room was on the top floor which provided a lovely view of the ocean. The only drawback is that there were no elevators but the friendly staff carried our luggage upstairs. After a few minutes we headed to the Rock Cafe for a delicious lunch of cerviche and an Inca cola. After lunch, we stopped at the Deep and got fitted for our wet suits and snorkelling gear for the next day. We then headead over to Tortuga Bay
(a long walking path loaded with cactus, red throat lizards and finches) before getting to the beach and then the lagoon for swimming. Oh, we saw some lava iguana hanging out in the beach area. After a short swim it was already 5PM and we had to get off the beach as it closes at 5PM. We headed back to the hotel. We went back to the Rock for dinner and then to the local discoteque for some menengue dancing to end the night.
