Laundry?

The bay adjacent to the Castillo de Santa Catalina in Cadiz

Last night we had a great idea.

We really are enjoying our time with Royal Caribbean.  They´re fun, they have lots to do, and the food and service has been great.  Unfortunatly they don´t have any self laundry facilities on the boat and their laundry service prices are high.  Our idea was to bring a load of laundry into Cadiz with us and clean it at a self service facility on shore.  We need some clean underwear, socks, etc for the rest of our trip.

We wandered around for about 2 hours trying to find a laundry service before giving up.  We asked three different people and were told by the Tourist Information office that in Cadiz they only have drop off laundry service.

We found both of those locations in the city and neither had a washer for us to use.  Drop off obviously wouldn´t work because we have to be back on the boat by 5 this afternoon.

We decided to just go to the internet cafe and update our blogs and then see the city.  Unfortunatly we are stuck carrying around a suitcase full of dirty clothing while we do so.  Oh well.  The internet costs on the boat are outragous.  We were paying .50/minute and the computers were really slow..it was painful so when we found a place on the stop we couldn´t help ourselves.

After we finished our internet-ing we took a stroll around the island and found ourselves at the Castillo de Santa Catolina.  From the dock it was a 30 minute walk along the waterside.

The Castillo is a former military castle that is now a free museum with various paintings and pictures posted around.  They have four different rooms each featuring a differnt artist or style.  I was a bit surprised that I enjoyed it a bit and got into the art some.  I´m rarely insterested in art, especially anything modern but this wasn´t too bad.  The location of the Castillo made for some great pictures and a nice walk as well.

Looking at our watches we realized that we had been relaxing a bit too much and needed to get back to the boat quickly.  We were both starting to get a little worried but when we got to the boat and saw them packing up the dock we almost started to run.  That was when we realized that it was only one of the docks and there was still a whole line of people waiting to get on board.

Fortunatly we had made it.  Oddly our biggest worry as we walked into the port area (before we could see the boat) was not really missing the boat, but having our names called out over the PA...everyone knows that those are the late people.

We´re both starting to get a bit worried about the remainder of our trip.  Nothing serious, but the volcano in Norway is still blocking air travel in Spain.  The airports were closed all day yesterday according to the news.  When we disembark on Saturday our plan is to catch a flight to Seville, but if the flights are cancelled...or back logged....Our back up plan is to take the train, so we´ll check on our fight Friday night, and then head to the train station if needed.  It´s a long train trip.  10 hours on the overnight, and 12 hours on the local trains during the day.  The flight would only be an hour.
