International Marketplace - a ripoff, but has the general tourists junk + souvenirs you need. Worth a visit to help the local economy!
Waikiki Beach - literally where all the tourists roam. there's many water activities and lessons offered. We rented two surf boards and ventured out into the ocean with zero. experience. Thankfully the locals/tourists with more experience than we do were extremely helpful and friendly and taught us how to stand and... we surfed. :)
North Shore - possibly some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. We took the bus ($2/person) there since we didn't have a car, which took two hours... but it is definitely worth a visit! We went snorkeling at Shark's Cove. HIGHLY recommended, we saw 2 sea turtles, and tons of colourful fishes. The snorkels were around $10-15/person to rent. Take a walk to other beaches around Sharks Cove like Sunset Beach or Pipeline beach, they're all great!
Diamond head - The entire trek was around 1 1/2 hour long.
Pearl Harbour + Arizona Memorial - If you're into history, pearl harbour is truly memorable. The commentary they give during the tour is very informative. When we went there, parts of the museum was under rennovation, but there's still things to see.
Ala Moana Center - a nice shopping center, relatively dead... hopefully they have revamped or advertised the center better to attract more tourists
Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve - beautiful area + nice snorkeling. Go early to avoid crowds though!
Things we ate: ( the ones I remembered at least)
Leonard's Bakery - cream puffs - DELICIOUS! extremely fattening and addictive.
Giovanni Shrimp Truck - mymymy. the best shrimp garlic truck we were told, and we were not disappointed. :)
Roy's - cheaper than the Roy's in los angeles, definitely a good place for couples.
Waiola Bakery - shaved ice. I wasnt too impressed with this... but the locals recommended it.
Try the local favourites like Lau Lau, Mahi Mahi (tuna), Poi, LOCO Moco?
My friend and i found Hawaii extremely beautiful. Although things are on the slightly expensive side, (Afterall, it's US territory), you can get around on a budget if you want to. The locals are extremely friendly and helpful and the beaches are beautiful. It is definitely worth a visit. :)
This was a 5 day 4 nights trip.
