Day 2 of Australia Adventure - Sydney - April 18th 2010
After dropping my bags off at the Y Hotel. I then make my way to check out Sydney. First stop I make to is Hyde Park which is almost across the street from where I am staying at.
First glance besides that everyone drives on the left side of the road. Is that people walk on the left side of the sidewalk as well. So this may take time to get used to as we all walk on the right side in other parts of the world.
Hyde Park is a nice area with all the trees and water fountains near by. Lots of people out and about and the weather is nice.
From here I am able to view the state capital building in Sydney for the state New South Wales.
Starting to enjoy this city and get my bearings. I make my way down to the Botanic Gardens and take many photos of this area as well. I walk about the area and I can see the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the distance. To this is my main goal today and the main thing that people come to Australia to see. I make my way down to the harbour and come face to face with the famous Sydney Opera House.
It is a great site with its roof tops shaped like sails as to resemble the many sail boats in Sydney Harbour. It is a picturesque view here and the harbour with the bridge in the background is very neat.
I walk around the building and its a great view and take many photos of this structure. As there are many other people here doing the same thing. I decide that since I came all this way to Australia, I should do the inside tour of the Sydney Opera house.
Then make my journey and do a walkabout of the Circular Quay which is all around the harbour area. It is made up the cafes and restaurants and ferry terminals all near by. I head my way towards the Sydney Harbour Bridge. I after walking around few streets make my way up the stairs to get to the walkway of the bridge. There is an excursion for just over $200 in which you can climb the beams of the bridge. I decided I will skip that and just walk across the bridge for free. It is a good walk going across the bridge and get to see the Sydney Harbour from a different prospective. It is totally worthwhile to see this amazing place with the opera house and Sydney Skyline in the background. I make my way all across th bridge to North Sydney and take a few photos.
I briefly head back to the hotel for a little bit to just clean up and sort some things out.
I go walk up the street to the local supermarket and get some fruit and other things for snacks and a cheap lunch as well. Then later on that evening, do some more exploring. I make the mistake of walking around this one area street called Oxford street only to find its the main area for the Gay and Lesbian culture, all well everyone to their own. I then walk down many more streets and end up near by Hyde Park again. I noticed many bats are flying around here, which I think is totally awesome experience. I go and wander around China town of Sydney. There is a really large community of Asian descent here in Sydney to which is a good thing.
